Abstract UV/EB inks are continually pushing into new application areas. One of the most vital new areas for UV/EB inks is flexible packaging, which is currently dominated by water and solvent-based inks. UV/EB technology has traditionally not been universally adopted in this area due to chemistry constraints, including odor, extractables, lamination capability and general printability. The ability to laminate UV/EB inks with current and emerging adhesive technology is especially a challenge to formulators and converters. The paper will examine various UV/EB chemistries that can be used for printing flexible packaging via lithographic or flexographic printing processes. The film adhesion and lamination properties of different chemistries will be highlighted and linked to their performance in UV/EB flexible packaging applications. |
